"What can be alternative yet fashionable ways to design a shoe that keeps the natural shape of the foot?"
This project was initiated based on research indicating that traditional shoes with narrow toe boxes deform the natural shape of the foot. Expanding the toe box can result in several benefits such as improving balance, promoting agility, alleviating common toe issues like bunions, increasing circulation, and reducing the risk of injury.
The design of the last is inspired by the natural separation of toes when they are spread. Two different types of toe separations are incorporated into the last design.
NAMAK 001/002/003
The series is called NAMAK, a Korean traditional shoe which also means imitation in Dutch.
This collection aims to create 3D-printed shoes using a single material, without the use of glue, to make them easily disassemblable. Moreover, the design process prioritizes exploring the foot rather than starting with the design of the shoe, basing it on the shape of the foot and how humans walk.
