In the first week of September, the accreditation panel, commissioned by Hobeon, spent two days at both the master’s course Education in Arts in Zwolle and the international Master Artist Educator in Arnhem. The panel conducted discussions with the management of the master's courses, teachers, students, members of the field committee, and the examination committee to assess the level and quality of education.

"What you are doing here is unique"

The panel chair was impressed with how much she learned over the two days. "What you're doing here is unique," the chair noted during the accreditation process. Other panel members talked about how the unique approach of both master's courses pushes boundaries to provide radical and sustainable alternative visions of arts education.

The panel praised both master's courses for their ongoing efforts to improve their programs and ensure the quality of assessments and exams. The panel recognized the importance of practical research, conducted through a diverse approach to location-specific education and research ('site-specific colleges'), mainly in existing workspaces, and the extensive residency program led by iMAE in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The panel also appreciated the focus on Issues-based Art Education in both courses, a method in which students are encouraged to express their perspectives on societal issues through art. The panel unanimously agreed: "No doubt, master competencies are prominently present in the curricula of these programs!"

Iris Eshel, director of the master's programs at ArtEZ, is extremely proud of this positive evaluation. "I am proud and pleased that the panel recognized the development of critical reflection and consciousness within both master's programs. Not only for their students but also for the people and communities their students come into contact with. This formal recognition confirms the relevance and impact of our art educators."
