Tuition fees

You pay tuition every year. You will either pay the statutory or institutional tuition fee depending on your nationality and previously earned degrees in the Netherlands, among other factors, you will pay either the statutory or institutional tuition fee.

Calculating tuition fee

Use our tuition fee calculator to easily calculate which tuition rate is applicable to you. Go to Paying tuition fees if you need more information about paying the tuition fees.

Statutory tuition fee

Most students pay the statutory tuition fee, which is € 2,601 for the 2025-2026 academic year.

You are eligible for the statutory tuition fee, if you meet the following conditions:

1. Nationality

You meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have the Dutch nationality.
  • You have the nationality of a EU/EEA country, Suriname or Switzerland.
  • You are the partner or child of a non-Dutch EU/EEA citizen who lives or works in the Netherlands.
  • You have a residence permit type II, III, IV, V or ‘Article 50 TEU’.
  • You have a type I residence permit with the appropriate condition. Please refer to the terms and conditions help.
  • You are a national of the United Kingdom (UK) and have a right of residence 28, 29, 40 or 30.

2. You have not obtained a previous degree from a government-funded study programme in the Netherlands

This means that you have not earned a degree in government-funded Dutch Higher Education after 31 July 1991: an Associate degree, a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree if you are going to do an Associate degree, a Bachelor’s degree if you are going to do a Bachelor’s course or a Master’s degree if you are going to do a Master’s degree. If you already have a degree and are planning to pursue a course in the field of either education or healthcare, you will pay the statutory tuition fee (provided that your first degree is not in education or healthcare).

ArtEZ can charge the institutional tuition fee if, in the course of the year, a student no longer meets these conditions.

Institutional tuition fee

Have you started your studies at ArtEZ in the 2024-2025 academic year, or are you planning to start in the 2025-2026 academic year? Then the institutional tuition fee for all bachelor's and associate degree courses is €11,460. For all master's courses, the institutional tuition fee is €12,580. Have you previously started your education and are re-enrolling in your course after a break in your studies? Then these amounts also apply to you. This also applies if you have switched courses.

Did you start your course in the 2023-2024 academic year or earlier and have remained continuously enrolled in the same course? And are you planning to re-enroll in this course for the 2025-2026 academic year? Then the institutional tuition fee for all bachelor's and associate degree courses is €10,990, and for all master's courses, it is €12,020.

If you need a residence permit as a non-EU student, you have to transfer what we call a financial guarantee before 31 May. Please check the page Financial guarantee Non-EU.

The amount of the institutional tuition fee is set by the Supervisory Board and can vary by course or group of students. It cannot be lower than the statutory tuition fee. Government funding for initial studies differentiates between various courses: art courses receive more government funding than many other courses. If you no longer meet the conditions for the statutory tuition fee during the academic year, ArtEZ will proceed to charge the institutional tuition fee.

Two study programmes simultaneously

Students who are following more than one programme at a time, only pay the statutory tuition fee for their second study programme if they have obtained their first degree and have yet to complete their second.
