On 22 September 2023, De Kunst van het Ontwerpen was awarded for the fifth time: a design prize for the most innovative or stimulating art-educational design by aspiring art educators and art teachers, organized by ArtEZ.

De kunst van het ontwerpen 2023

Contemporary educational practice requires art educators/art teachers who can (co-)develop and shape education from a personal vision. This certainly applies to education in the arts, a dynamic field with ever evolving artistic expressions, thought provoking makers and changing concepts. Het Landelijk Overleg Kunstvakdocentenopleidingen (KVDO) is organizing this educational design prize in order to make the special expertise of future art teachers visible as an educational designer.

Guts & Glory Challenge

In addition to the prizes of De Kunst van het Ontwerpen, this year the prize of the Guts&Glory challenge will be awarded for the first time to art education students with a surprising, innovative, sharp, daring, challenging and promising plan for an in- or extracurricular arts education project. This prize is especially for a promising design that has not yet been fully developed in order to stimulate and help with the further development of the design plan.

Special attention is given to the plans that:

  • Are aimed at a special combination of target groups and/or
  • Arising from the cooperation of the art educator and the school teacher and/or
  • Connecting disciplines.

The prize is made possible by the proceeds of the book No Guts & No Glory, kunst in het hart van het onderwijs written by Fred Wartna, Dorien Folkers and Arno van Riet and published in June 2022.

Applications for the challenge do not (yet) have to meet all the criteria of the Regulations of De Kunst van het Ontwerpen. However, there must be the potential to meet the criteria in the future. It is possible to register a design plan for both De Kunst van het Ontwerpen  and the Guts&Glory Challenge.
