As a student at the academy for theatre & dance, you learn to ask critical questions – about yourself and your art form. What is the essence of dance? How can theatre reach new heights? Find your own answers by connecting with people inside and outside your chosen discipline.

Theatrium in Arnhem

Step into the Theatrium in Arnhem and you feel the creative energy all around you. Dance students fill the studios with movement, while the performance spaces resound with the voices of actors and theatre makers. The ‘purple floor’ is the beating heart of the building, where the academy comes to life. There you interact with students from the Artist Educator in Dance, Artisteducator in Theatre, Dance Artist and School of Acting programmes, during breaks or discussing exciting collaborations.

Sophia Building in Zwolle

If you study the Artisteducator in Theatre & Media programme in Zwolle, you will study in the beautiful Sophia Building. A landmark that reflects the cultural richness of the city. You will be surrounded by students from other programmes, such as fine art and design. You can inspire each other and quickly start interdisciplinary collaborations that lead to surprising results. The Sophia Building is the place where future visual artists, designers and artist educators turn their imagination into meaningful art.

International and diverse

At the academy, our aim is to train gifted students from as many backgrounds as possible to pursue a career in theatre and dance. No two students are the same and they take many different routes to find us, from vocational college through to university.

Our students and teachers come from all over the world. Every one of our programmes enjoys close associations with international partners, from Suriname to Curaçao and from Belfast to Benin. 

Create and perform your own productions

Every year, ArtEZ Academy of Theatre & Dance presents more than 150 performances at the academy and almost 100 for external audiences. As a student, you perform on stages beyond Arnhem, in productions you created and perform individually or in close collaboration with your fellow students.
