Scholarships and Grants

There are scholarships and grants for different situations. On this page we give more information about the possibilities.

Erasmus+ grant

  • Are you an ArtEZ student?
  • And do you want to do an exchange or internship within the EU?
  • Or are you about to graduate and then want to do an internship within the EU?

In these situations, you can apply for an Erasmus grant through the Erasmus+ programme. Through the Erasmus+ programme, students in higher education have the opportunity to gain new knowledge and skills. This means that you can apply for a grant for the time that you are abroad on an exchange or doing an internship. Staff members can also apply for an Erasmus+ grant. For more information about staff mobility visit our intranet.

  • At ArtEZ, we only make use of this programme for exchanges within the EU. You can also take advantage of the Erasmus+ programme if you go to Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Turkey or Macedonia.
Please note: if you are going to Switzerland or the UK, you cannot make use of the Erasmus+ programme at ArtEZ.

Do you want to go on an exchange? Then these are the conditions you must meet:

    • During your exchange, you must be registered as a full-time ArtEZ student.
    • The institution you want to go to must be a partner institution of ArtEZ.
    • You must study abroad for 3-12 months.
    • You receive a grant for a maximum of 360 days.
    • You must live and study in the guest country for the entire period.
    • Make sure you have the approval of the Board of Examiners so that you can receive credits for your ArtEZ programme.
    • The total duration of the exchange programme may not exceed 360 days for a course cycle (BA/MA).
    • You may not receive any other EU funds to cover additional costs of studying abroad.
    • You must apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship at least 6 weeks before departure.
    • If you are an international EU student at ArtEZ, you will not receive an Erasmus+ grant for an exchange in your 'home country'.
  • At ArtEZ, we only make use of this programme for internships within the EU. You can also take advantage of the Erasmus+ programme if you go to Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Turkey or Macedonia.
Please note: if you are going to Switzerland or the UK, you cannot make use of the Erasmus+ programme at ArtEZ.

Do you want to do an internship? Then these are the conditions you must meet:

    • During your internship, you must be registered as a full-time ArtEZ student.
    • Your internship plans must be approved by ArtEZ (i.e. your head of course, internship coordinator).
    • Your internship abroad is for a period of 2 to 12 months.
    • You receive a grant for a maximum of 360 days.
    • Your internship abroad must be full-time.
    • You must live and work in the guest country for the entire period.
    • Make sure you have the approval of the Board of Examiners so that you can receive credits for your ArtEZ programme.
    • You may not receive any other EU funds to cover additional costs of studying abroad.
    • You must apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship at least 6 weeks before departure.
    • If you are an international EU student at ArtEZ, you will not receive an Erasmus+ grant for an internship in your 'home country'.
  • At ArtEZ, we only make use of this programme for internships after graduation* within the EU. You can also take advantage of the Erasmus+ programme if you go to Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Turkey or Macedonia.
Please note: if you are going to Switzerland or the UK, you cannot make use of the Erasmus+ programme at ArtEZ.

Do you want to do an internship after graduation? Then these are the conditions you must meet:

    • You have arranged the traineeship during your final year of study.
    • You have completed the application for the Erasmus+ grant before you graduate (allow at least one month for this). Make sure all forms have been signed before your graduation. Your internship plans must be approved by ArtEZ (i.e. your head of course, internship coordinator)
    • Your traineeship is within the EU.
    • You will be able to receive a grant for 2 months at most for an internship after graduation. Please note that you can receive a maximum of 12 months Erasmus+ grant per study cycle (BA, MA). You may not receive any other EU funds to cover additional costs of studying or internship abroad.
    • The traineeship is full-time, i.e. at least 35 hours per week.
    • You must live and work in the guest country for the entire period.
    • Your traineeship does not have to directly follow up on your graduation, but your right to an Erasmus+ grant will expire one year after graduation. It is therefore advisable to complete your work placement within 1 year of graduating if you would like a grant for the entire traineeship period.
    • The end date of the internship must fall within one year of graduation. The aim of these internships is to make your transition to the labour market easier. You are not obliged to return to the Netherlands afterwards but can instead choose to remain in the host country if that is financially feasible.
    • If you are an international EU student at ArtEZ, you will not receive an Erasmus grant for an internship in your ‘home’ country.

    * By graduation is meant the moment you pass your last exams.

  • Would you like to go on an exchange? Then read more about how you can prepare and register on the Exchange page. Please note: there are a number of deadlines.

Would you like to do an internship abroad? Go to Internship for more information.

Are you graduating soon and do you want to gain a period of work experience in a country within the EU after graduation? Then go to the After graduation page for more information.

  • Do you still have questions? Please send an email to exchanges@artez.nl.

  • In addition to these regular physical exchanges for students and staff, the Erasmus+ programme also offers opportunities for short exchanges between partner institutions. The feature of these forms of exchange is that they have both a physical component and a virtual component. ArtEZ staff members may also be eligible for an Erasmus scholarship. You can find more information on our intranet.

Erasmus+ Top-up Inclusion and Travel Support

If you receive an Erasmus+ grant, you may also be eligible for the Top-up Inclusion and/or Travel Support. The Top-up Inclusion is available if you experience a financial obstacle or one or more obstacles falling under disability or health problems. Travel Support is available if you use an environmentally friendly and sustainable means of transport for your trip to the host country. Find more information on the Erasmus+ Top-up Inclusion and Travel Support below.

  • The Top-up Inclusion is a supplementary grant on top of the normal Erasmus+ grant. It is aimed at students who need extra financial support during their study exchange or internship due to specific circumstances. Below you can find general information about the conditions and applying for the Erasmus+ Top-up Inclusion.

    What are the conditions?

Are you participating in the Erasmus+ programme and do you need an extra financial helping hand due to exceptional personal circumstances? If so, you may be eligible for the top-up Inclusion if you fall into one of the following categories:

    • Functional impairment
    • Health problems
    • Financial difficulties

Below are examples of functional impairments, health problems and economic barriers. These examples give a picture of the situations that are regarded as exceptional. ArtEZ will always ask you to provide supporting evidence.

    • Physical impairments such as mobility problems
    • Mental challenges, such as living with epilepsy
    • Intellectual impairments, such as dyslexia
    • Sensory impairments, such as visual impairments
    • Chronic illnesses, such as rheumatism or diabetes
    • Neurodiversity, such as autism or ADHD
    • Recipients of a DUO supplementary grant

How much is the grant worth?

If your application is approved, you will receive € 250,- per month on top of your regular Erasmus+ grant.

How do you apply for the grant?

If you would like to apply for extra financial support within the Erasmus+ programme, follow the steps in the step-by-step plan. Want to start your application right away? Go to Osiris and apply for your Stay Abroad.

  • When you go on an exchange abroad, you will have travel expenses. Therefore, you will receive a travel support amount, in addition to the regular Erasmus+ grant. The amount of this support depends on the travel distance. The further you travel, the higher the amount. See the table below. Additionally, extra (travel) days are granted to help cover travel time before and after your stay abroad. This is a maximum of two travel days: one day before and one day after the exchange.

In addition to the standard travel support, it is possible to receive an extra allowance. You can apply for this if you travel green for both your outward and return journey. Examples of green travel include traveling by train, bus, boat, or bicycle. Since sustainable ways of travelling take more time and sometimes costs more money, the support per travel distance is higher. However, there are conditions attached to green travel. See the table and explanation of these conditions below.

The grant amounts for Travel Support are:

What are the conditions of green travel?

You submit a Declaration of Honour in Osiris Student/Stay Abroad stating that you travel green. Do not forget to sign this document. You also have to upload your tickets for travel to Osiris as evidence on your return. Make sure you keep hold of your tickets! Examples of evidence are (a photo or screenshot of) train, bus or boat ticket. The tickets must show date, destination and your name.

    How to apply?

After completing the steps in the application process, you can apply for an Erasmus+ grant via Osiris Student/Stay Abroad. Here you can also indicate that you will be travelling sustainably (outward and return). Go to "How to apply" to read more about the application process.
