The journey of Floortje Looman

Floortje Looman graduated in 2020 from the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede from the Music in Education programme. She now works at the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede. She finds it wonderful to experience that making music together creates a positive energy in the classroom, it's an energy that she is happy to spread.

The journey of Yuliya Globa

Yuliya Globa was born in Ukraine, emigrated to Germany, and later moved to the Netherlands. She graduated from the Dance in Education programme in 2015 and is now a teacher at the interdisciplinary Education in Arts programme and coordinator of the DanceLAB introduction programme in Arnhem. She founded her company YU GLO to create inclusive dance theatre performances as an Artist Educator. Her socially engaged artistic projects show her ambition to make an art education truly accessible to everyone.

The journey of Helena Basilova

Helena Basilova is a classically trained pianist, whose music has struck a chord both in the Netherlands and internationally. Her work mixes the old world of her Russian ancestors with the technology of modern composition. She has played, among other places, in New York, Japan, Moscow and Mumbai. Since 2016, she has been teaching piano at the conservatory of ArtEZ Zwolle. Lars Meijer and Tim Bongaerts interviewed her and penned down her key moments from her career.

Phaedra Kwant plays bass guitar, double bass, sings, writes lyrics, and composes music. She is active at the highest level of the Dutch jazz, pop, and theater world. She is seen as a musical chameleon, works a lot as a session musician, and records solo albums under the name 'Phaedra.' She has been the new bass guitar teacher at ArtEZ Arnhem since September. Looking back, Phaedra tells about the most important key moments in her career from which we can draw no less than ten inspiring lessons.

Daan Herweg teaches Piano at the Jazz & Pop program in Zwolle. His maiden voyage as a jazz musician began when he is asked to join the Quincey quintet during the first year of his BA studies in Amsterdam. Daan grew into a seasoned musician through countless performances and tours with musicians like Caro Emerald and Lange Frans & Baas B. But his heart lies with jazz and Daan discovered that his talent for creating, composing, producing and arranging gives him ample opportunities to keep returning to that passion again and again. The journey of Douwe Dijkstra 

Douwe Dijkstra is a teacher in Illustration Media at Illustration Design Zwolle. As an artist and film maker he mostly learns from the people he ran into along the way. His graduation work garnered a lot of praise. His success was encouraging, but it also raised the bar. His first years out of school felt like a practical appendix to his student years. And very little of it went 'according to plan'. Read more here.

The journey of Simone Trum

Simone Trum teaches the Typography course at Graphic Design Arnhem and runs a graphic design studio Team Thursday with Loes van Esch. Simone looks back and writes about collaboration with Loes van Esch and how they have carefully built this up. About truly going for what you want, even if it means that you have to cancel assignments. She talks about their first steps with their design studio and the valuable advice once received to just keep going, even when it's hard or when you're uncertain about everything. Read on here.

The journey of Ratna Ho

Ratna Ho studied Fashion Design at ArtEZ and graduated in 2009. After that, she went on to do a Master's degree at Central Saint Martins in London. Besides working as a Textiles teacher at the Fashion Design department, she founded Fraenck together with her partner Pascal Mulder. Ratna states you must give yourself the time to set up a company, and you must dare to do business without losing sight of reality. She also experienced a rejected subsidy application because her plan would be too commercial. While Ratna thinks the creative economy will look so much different if a healthy business model forms the basis of your creative concept and your signature as a designer. Read on here.
