Makers in change

Boek
Art education

Tetske, Roland and Vlinder are just three possible characters. They don’t know each other. All three are somehow looking for connection, for a sense of belonging. For a place where they can be at home. They are exploring and experiencing what art education has to offer in times of change.

What can we expect from arts education? It is the ‘place’ where we express who we are, who we were and can become. It is the place where we empathise with the other. We do this by making and by experiencing. Arts education is there as well to support us in social and societal development. It can be a tool to help us empathise with other people, times and perspectives, even a means to contribute to social change.

The research project ‘Makers in change’ investigated what artisteducators need, to work interdisciplinary, socially engaged, and to be able to work in challenging places that they commit to for a period of time. A HUB is one such possible gathering: a short-term learning environment that functions as a place for interdisciplinary encounter and exploration of complex social issues.

It is against this backdrop that we get to know Tetske, Roland and Vlinder. Become part of their journey of discovery that is at times frustrating, confusing, reassuring and perhaps relatable.
