Enrolment conditions

To start a bachelor’s programme or associate degree, you must have a senior general secondary (HAVO), pre-university (VWO), secondary vocational (MBO-4) or equivalent foreign qualification. For a master’s programme, the requirement is a bachelor’s degree or equivalent international qualification.

- I obtained my qualification in the Netherlands after 1991. 

The Education Implementation Service (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs – DUO) will send us details of your qualification.

- I completed my studies outside the Netherlands or in the Netherlands before 1991. 

We will not receive any details from DUO. Send us (or upload) a copy of your original qualification and list of grades. If your qualification is not in Dutch, English or German, you must also send a certified translation into Dutch or English accompanied by a copy of the original certificate.

- I am currently studying in the Netherlands and due to take my final exam this year. 

You do not need to do anything. DUO will inform us as soon as it receives notification that you have obtained your qualification. If you do not obtain the necessary qualification, you cannot start the programme. In that case, you have to cancel your enrolment request in Studielink.

- I do not meet the preparatory programme requirement for a bachelor’s programme or associate degree. 

In that case, you may be eligible for the colloquium doctum selection procedure. Find out more on this page under the heading Colloquium doctum. Please note: a colloquium doctum is not an option for admission to a master’s programme.

- I am a status holder (a refugee with a residence permit) and cannot demonstrate that I meet the preparatory programme requirements. Contact the Student Affairs department at studentaffairs@artez.nl or  +31 (0)26-3535650. 

- I do not meet the preparatory programme requirement for a bachelor’s programme or associate degree. 

You may be eligible for selection by colloquium doctum. A colloquium doctum is an admission assessment that determines whether you have the required work experience, intellectual ability and language skills for the desired programme. This assessment is carried out by an external provider contracted by ArtEZ. You must pay for your own colloquium doctum assessment.

- I will be 21 or over on 1 September of the coming academic year. You may be eligible for assessment by colloquium doctum. 

E-mail Student Affairs before 31 May (studentaffairs@artez.nl) if you have been admitted to an ArtEZ programme on artistic grounds and wish to take this option. Student Affairs will let you know the next steps.

- I will be 18, 19 or 20 on 1 September of the upcoming academic year. 

To do a colloquium doctum, you first need permission from the Central Exam Board of ArtEZ. Email Student Affairs before 31 May (studentaffairs@artez.nl) if you have been admitted to an ArtEZ programme on artistic grounds and wish to take this option. Student Affairs will let you know the next steps. You will not be eligible for a colloquium doctum if you recently failed your final secondary school exams.

Please note: a colloquium doctum is not an option for admission to a master’s programme. 

ArtEZ is required to check your personal details. Studielink usually verifies them using the Personal Records Database (BRP). If you are not listed on this register, your identity document will be used for verification. This also takes place through Studielink. In some cases, we may send you an email asking you to upload a copy of your identity document.

The language requirement applies to all our programmes. Go to the Language requirement page to see what this means for your programme and how you can demonstrate that you meet it. If required, upload a copy of your language certificate on the ArtEZ application website.

- I do not yet have a valid residence permit. 

ArtEZ can apply for a residence permit on your behalf. In that case, you must upload all the required documents for your residence permit application, proof that you meet the preparatory programme requirement and a copy of your language certificate on the ArtEZ application website by 31 May 2026. ArtEZ must also receive your financial guarantee no later than 31 May 2026. The financial guarantee includes payment of tuition fees for your first academic year. If you meet these requirements and your residence permit is granted, you will be enrolled for the 2026-2027 academic year.

- I already have a valid residence permit. 

Upload a copy of the front and back of your residence permit on the ArtEZ application website by 31 August 2026.

Make sure you pay your tuition fees on time to complete your enrolment. Indicate how you wish to pay in Studielink. The Paying tuition fees page contains details of the different payment methods. You can arrange the payment in Studielink from mid-June. We will send you a message as soon as payment is possible.
