First, you apply via Studielink. Depending on where you live and what stage of your studies you are at, you will need to submit some important documents. These include a copy of your passport and your bachelor's degree. Studielink will guide you through these steps.

Step 2: Complete your studyplan

In order to benefit the most from this master’s, we expect you to plan what you want to explore and achieve during your studies. That is why we ask you to write a personal study plan for admission, in which you describe your motivation for pursuing this master's course and your ideas regarding advancing your music therapy skills.

Step 3: Entrance exam

Once you have applied and handed in your studyplan, you will be invited for the entrance exam. The exam consists of two elements: a motivational interview and a live musical audition. For both elements, you are expected to prepare or present something,. Therefore, read through the text carefully to make sure you won’t miss anything.

  • The motivational interview is a vital component of our selection process for the Master of Music Therapy Programme. During this interactive session with the programme coordinator and head of program, you'll have the opportunity to expand on your study plan,  exploring your personal and professional motivations, musical development goals, therapeutic interests, internship or work experience plans, and ideas for your culminating project. We assess your passion for advancing the field of music therapy, your readiness to engage with research, and your ability to balance our hybrid program with your existing commitments.

  • Our musical audition will be either on location or online and will take approximately 15 minutes of your motivational interview. For the audition, we would like you to prepare three musical pieces, in which you can showcase your musicality through different musical aspects.

    •  A Self-selected song with chord progressions and changing meters
    • Improvisation with changing accompaniment and styles
    • A musical piece on your own instrument
  • Reading preparation

    For the motivational interview, we would like you to choose and read one of the music therapy articles. We will send you the articles in advance, after you applied via Studielink. During the motivational interviews we will ask you to put in your own words:

    • the main topic of investigation;
    • the chosen design to research the topic;
    • the main results of the investigation;
    • your critical opinion on the reading material.

Step 4: Admission and enrolment

After you have done the audition, the committee advises the board of examiners. The board of examiners decides whether you are offered a place. You will be notified of the result of the entrance exam within three working weeks.

You can find a more detailed description of the live musical audition, including the articles we will ask you to read and more information about the motivational interview, via the button below.
