Application and admission

If you want to follow the master's course Architecture, the first step is to apply for admission/auditions. Learn about the process step by step and what to expect. You'll also find important dates, deadlines, and useful tips to prepare yourself. 

Applying for admission

You can apply for this course through Studielink. First, read the admission process for the master's course Architecture below. You can find general admission information for ArtEZ here. Once you've applied, you'll receive a confirmation email from ArtEZ Student Affairs. After that, the course will provide you with further details regarding the admission process

The data for the admission interviews for the Master's in Architecture are:

  • Friday, June 7, 2024
  • Saturday, June 8, 2024
  • Friday, June 14, 2024
  • Saturday, June 15, 2024

Admission criteria

If you want to follow the master's course Architecture, you must at least fulfil these requirements to be eligible to apply:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering (University of Applied Sciences or University of Technology) or a bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture with demonstrably sufficient technical knowledge; Sometimes you can also take an entrance examination with a different background, but you will then need to have sufficient relevant work experience;
  • a proof of your language proficiency. For more information, please check the Dutch language requirements for ArtEZ master's courses;
  • a positive result of the entrance examination.

Admission procedure: here's what to expect

Step 1: Apply via Studielink

First, you apply via Studielink. You will be asked to submit the following documents:

  • a copy of your passport;
  • a copy of your bachelor’s diploma (preferably in English and with a list of credits);
  • a language certificate;
  • As Non EU/EEA participant, you will have to transfer a financial guarantee.

Step 2: Motivation letter, CV and portfolio

After you have applied via Studielink, you receive an email in which we ask you to upload:

  • a letter setting out your reasons for choosing this course;
  • a CV listing the courses/short courses you have taken so far and your portfolio.

Step 3: Entrance examination

There is an important distinction between admissibility (meeting the admission requirements) and actual admission. You will only actually be admitted to the master’s course Architecture after completion of the entrance examination. This has the form of an admission interview. You will receive an invitation to the interview (if invited) if you register via Studielink before 1 June.

Step 4: Results and enrolment 

You will be informed of the result of your entrance examination within three working weeks after the interview. If you are admitted, you will receive information from the course by email on how to proceed with your enrolment .An admission is only valid for the course for which you have applied.

Scholarships

If you are a non-EU/EEA resident, there are two scholarships you can apply for: the ArtEZ Scholarship or the Holland scholarship. Deadline for both scholarships is May 1st 2023, so you need to be admitted before this deadline. Please contact the Student Affairs department for information about scholarships, residence permits, accommodation and any other related questions.

Pre-master’s course and minor in Architecture and Structural Engineering

Are you keen to take the Architecture master’s course but do you still need more experience in design? If so, you can apply for the Architecture pre-master’s course first, or take the Architecture minor. Do you still need more technical knowledge? If so, apply for the Structural Engineering pre-master’s course first, or take the Structural Engineering minor

The pre-master’s courses are intended for students with a Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering or interior architecture who want to prepare themselves for the master’s course Architecture. You can also follow a pre-master’s course as a minor during your bachelor’s course. If you have already completed your bachelor’s course, you can take a pre-master’s course as a supplementary course. The classes are taught throughout 15 weeks of the first semester on Friday and Saturday mornings. The pre-Master program amounts to a total of 15 ECTS credits.
