Programme

Over the course of 26 weeks divided over 7 months, the Pre-Academy Art & Design gives you an intensive introduction to the bachelor’s courses of ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design in Arnhem.

What do you learn?

You won't just become familiar with the nature and content of art education, we will also teach you to look at reality differently. You'll learn to represent and shape your ideas and experiences. You will get to know contemporary artistic movements, get creative and take courses in our workshops and visit various museums.

You will work under the supervision of experienced and enthusiastic lecturers on assignments that are representative of the areas of study taught in Arnhem: Product Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Design Art Technology, Fine Art and Design in Education and BEAR Fine Art

Programme

The programme consists of two parts:

Period 1: Information, Orientation, Experimentation (10 weeks)

The classes are generally thematic and focused on the nature and content of fine art education. You will be given assignments in areas including Observation, Representation, Design, Research, Interactive and Theory. You will get to know a number of our workshop facilities and visit museums.

Period 2: In-depth (16 weeks)

During this period, the education will take the form of workshops. These will focus on the professional field and/or be theme-based and will link in with contemporary developments in Art & Design.
During the final weeks, you will do a study try out/work in a department of your choice. You will gain an insight into education, learn what the expectations are and see what facilities are available in the workshops.

During the Pre-Academy, your work and development will be regularly evaluated by the supervising lecturers. Assessments take place at the end of each course component. In addition, at two points during the year there are assessments at which students exhibit all their work.
During the Pre-Academy, you can sit the admission exam for the bachelor’s course of your choice.
