The entrance exam:

The admission consists of two parts that are administered separately:

  • You will receive an invitation by e-mail for this. You perform a musical group assignment, you sing and your theory is tested. This day takes place in a classroom of the conservatory. There is a beamer available. In addition to school instruments, desks and a back-line, there is also a grand piano.

    For this day, prepare the following:

    The musical group assignment
    Work out an assignment that you can complete in ten to fifteen minutes with a group of five to eight people, including yourself. Consider, for example, rehearsing a song, a small choir piece, an instrumental or rhythm piece, a sound play or a musical movement game. Describe your musical group assignment on an A4 sheet and indicate what you want to do. Take this preparation and the necessary additional materials, such as sheet music or a text with chord symbols, to the entrance exam.

    Preludes for the subsidiary subject singing
    Two pieces that let you hear your singing voice. Think for example of a pop song, musical song, classical song, children's song or jazz standard. These songs must also differ in style, character and expression. You accompany yourself on a chord instrument;

    The music theory test
    The music theory test consists of an individual oral test and a written test. A music theory teacher administers both tests during the working day. It's not about mastering everything perfectly. The teacher mainly checks whether your basic knowledge and music theory skills can be developed to the desired level. The individual oral test consists of the following parts:

    you sing one or more major and minor melodies that you get on sheet music;
    you sing major and minor scale figures that are sung or played
    You play, sing or tap a number of rhythms in different time signatures.
    You name intervals and triads that you are offered;
    name your notated triads and four notes and a number of scales;

  • This takes place during a trial lesson of approximately 45 minutes. This part of the entrance test is taken at an individual time by a teacher from the conservatoire. He or she will contact you for an appointment.

    Preparation for main instrument entrance test (can also be vocals).
    Record your instrumental/vocal performance and post to YouTube.

    Four instrumental pieces performed on your main instrument. The pieces must differ in style, character and expression.
    Is singing your main instrument? Four pieces with which you let your singing voice be heard. Think for example of a pop song, musical song, classical song, children's song or jazz standard. These songs must also differ in style, character and expression. You accompany yourself on a chord instrument.
    If you play another instrument in addition to your program, you can fit it into your program.
    If you have written your own piece of music, we would love to hear about it.
