Music Theory Crash Course

Are you taking the entrance exam for a bachelor’s course in music and could use some extra practice for the theory exam? Then apply for the crash course in music theory and ear training at the Academy of Music in Zwolle.

This course offers focused training for the theoretical component of the entrance exam. After this course, you will be better prepared for a successful music theory exam, a component for admission to a bachelor’s course. You may take this course if you are already familiar with the most fundamental concepts of music theory and have a basic knowledge of notation.

Programme

During these lessons, you will improve your skills in ear training, score singing, notation, reading and transcribing rhythms and harmonic listening. On top of that, you will broaden your knowledge base of general music theory and go over all of the requirements of the theory component of the bachelor entrance exam.

Preparation recommendations:

The book Algemene muziekleer by Bernhard Nelleke, chapters 1, 2, 8-11, 18-21 or Tipboek: Muziek op papier, chapters 2-4, 5, and 10-13. The ability to read music is a base requirement for participation in the course.

Practical Info:

Depending on the language abilities of the participating students, the crash course will be taught in either English or Dutch.
The course will take place when enough participants sign up.
Course lessons will be at the ArtEZ Academy of Music, Aan de Stadsmuur 88, 8011 VD Zwolle.
The course can also be taken online if necessary, after consultation with the course teacher and if there are enough applications for an online component.
The lessons will be taught by a theory teacher at the Academy of Music in Zwolle.

Fee

€ 400 (includes photocopies and practice materials)

Cancellation: Registration is for the full length of the course. Given the short duration of the course, cancellation mid-course is not allowed and a refund of tuition fees is not possible.
