Expertises
ExpertisesThe Music Therapy bachelor course together with the Music Therapy preparatory programme, pre-master course, master course and professorship form a cluster that is rich in knowledge and an authority in the field of music therapy. We are regular organisers of international conferences on our specialisations.
Specialisations
Neurologic music therapy
Neurologic music therapy is a treatment method in which music is used for the (re)training of skills in the area of speech-language, motor skills and cognition. Music therapy at ArtEZ is even the only course in the Netherlands that is allowed to teach the Neurologic Music Therapy specialisation.
Neonatology
Within our Neonatology specialisation we provide music therapy for premature babies. To this end, we collaborate with the University Medical Centre Groningen, among others.
Music technology
For this we work together with (inter)national developers. In the TechLab we work together with other academy of music programmes on the use of technological innovations in the musical field. As a student you will learn about various software and hardware and how to use it for music therapy purposes.
Partners
The Music Therapy course is right at the heart of the professional field. For example, we have a large network of cooperation partners. These are mental health institutions, rehabilitation clinics or detention centres. These are also places where you can serve your internship or where you can start work as a certified music therapist after your studies. ArtEZ Music Therapy collaborates with:
UMCG – University Medical Centre Groningen
From the (professor Dr Artur Jaschke) we work with the UMCG in the field of research into the effects of music therapy within the neonatology and elderly care.
Lyndensteyn School
Lyndensteyn School is a school for (secondary) special education for students with a physical disability or a multiple handicap and for students with a long-term illness. We work with the Lyndensteyn School on the development and use of music technology in this field.
Connect by Music and Music for Moria
For several years we have been working closely with Connect by Music. Connect by Music brings music to frontline locations housing victims from conflict zones. A project that ties in seamlessly with this, developed by ArtEZ students and alumni, is Music For Moria.
Further training
The course offers many opportunities for further training for graduates: basic and fellowship training in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), NICU training (Neonatology Intensive Care Unit) and music cushion intervention training (Dementia). You can also take the remedial education music therapist (OPMT) course. The Music Therapy refresher courses are accredited by the Occupational Therapy Register.
