From ArtEZ to the Binnenhof: alumna Grytsje Suze designs bag for Prinsjesdag
Grytsje Suze, an alumna of the Fine Art and Design in Education programme at ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Arnhem, designed a windmill-inspired bag for Prinsjesdag. Member of Parliament Sjoukje van Oosterhout carried the bag on 15 September during Prinsjesdag in The Hague.
For Sjoukje van Oosterhout, PRO’s climate spokesperson in the House of Representatives, Grytsje Suze designed a wind-turbine-shaped bag for Prinsjesdag. The shape was deliberately chosen as a recognisable symbol of Sjoukje’s commitment to renewable energy and the energy transition. The materials and techniques are also an integral part of the story: the bag is made using bio-based 3D-printed components and coated cotton for the blades. In this way, the design brings together fashion, new technology and sustainability in a single wearable statement.
A metaphor for change
For Grytsje Suze, the bag brings together several different worlds: “Sjoukje’s personal commitment, her own vision as a designer, the future, new materials and technology, as well as fashion and the public. The bag is therefore more than an accessory: it carries an idea. The blades can only turn when you set them in motion yourself. In this sense, the bag also becomes a metaphor for change: it starts with you. We are not merely spectators; we ourselves are the carriers of change.”
