What you will learn during the Preparatory Music Course

Making music at a high level and everything you need to prepare yourself for an entrance exam for a bachelor’s course in music: you will learn all of this during the Preparatory Music Course.

You will train your musical skills and receive coaching and information to further help you progress musically. This includes main subject courses for your instrument or voice, participating in recital evenings and taking part in the collaborative Working Days (read more below). You will also receive music theory lessons. All of the above-mentioned lessons are taught by conservatory teachers.

In one year, you will learn how the ArtEZ Academy of Music functions and whether or not a programme at the conservatory is right for you. Taking the Preparatory Music Course is not a guarantee of admission to a bachelor’s course, but lessons from conservatory teachers can definitely increase your chances. In any case, they will offer you a thorough preparation for an admissions exam.

Admission

  • In order to be admitted to the Jazz & Pop Preparatory Music Course, you will give an audition equivalent to the Bachelor Jazz & Pop audition. During this audition, we will be checking if you are also eligible for admission to the bachelor’s course. If you are also eligible for the bachelor’s course, it will not be possible for you to take the preparatory course. If you have already taken an entrance exam for the bachelor’s course and received a negative result, it is unfortunately no longer possible to apply for the Preparatory Music Course. For more information on the audition, please see the admissions page for the Bachelor Jazz & Pop in Arnhem.

  • You will be invited to audition in June, where you will give us an impression of your current level and development through the means of your chosen programme. Your programme for the instrument or vocal audition must conform to the programme requirements listed on the Bachelor Classical Music admission page.

  • The admission requirements for the new preparatory course will be available here shortly.

  • Before the admission audition, you will turn in a digital presentation folder. For more information on how the audition works, please see the admissions page for the Bachelor Music Theatre.
