After graduation

After graduation

Bachelor of Artisteducator in Dance graduates are enthusiastic, independently enterprising dance teachers who can dance and create dance, have a strong personality on the dance floor, are eager to learn and innovate, and are able to convey dance (pleasure). With those skills you can work in all sorts of places in society.

Title and diploma

After graduating in the Artisteducator in Dance course, you may use the title of Bachelor of Education (BEd). This study can be found in the Central Register of Higher Education Study Programmes (CROHO) under code 34940. The formal name of the course, under which it is known in the CROHO, is Bachelor of Dance in Education. This CROHO name will appear on your diploma.

Alumni work as teachers, répétiteurs, makers, dance coaches, organisers and entrepreneurs. Many are self-employed or combine freelancing with part-time employment. Because the teachers we produce meet the demand in the professional field, they find many opportunities. They work in primary and secondary education, intermediate (MBO) and higher (HBO) dance training programmes and in the extracurricular field, for example in dance and ballet schools, youth theatre schools, youth dance groups, educational departments of companies and institutions, and community art and dance projects for businesses and social organisations such as care institutions and before/after school care.

The Artisteducator in Dance course has brought me so much more than pure dance lessons. It has made me an all-round teacher who can work in all kinds of different situations, including different target groups, styles and workplaces.

Starting work

During the course you get to know the possibilities in the field and you will determine where you will feel most at home. You gain knowledge and experience and are already building a network. This means that you can start working immediately after graduation. Our former students work both in the Netherlands and abroad in:

  • their own business;
  • primary schools and out-of-school care organisations, where they supervise dance projects;

  •  amateur dance companies, as a rehearser or choreographer;

  •  education in arts centres;

  •  private dance schools;

  • nursing homes;

  • refugee organisations and asylum seeker centres;

  • companies, where they carry out community art and dance projects;

  • or they work as a dance coach, organiser/entrepreneur and dance trend follower.

For me, Artisteducator in Dance at ArtEZ has been a place where students are given the space to create their own teaching style; where innovation and new ideas are encouraged, while not losing sight of tradition. The course is a place where you lay a foundation that, after four years, provides you with a stepping stone to finding who you are and who you want to be in the field. With the tools you discover during the course, you can continue to swim, the route you take is largely up to you.
