The selection days
The 2024 selection process for the Artisteducator in Dance course consists of two rounds. The first round takes place on a single day. After this day, you will hear whether you proceed to the second round. The second round spans two days, after which the final results will be announced.
During the selection days, various workshops are offered. Each workshop focuses on specific qualities, skills, and attributes required for our program. We assess artistic ability, research skills, connecting ability, physical learning capacity, environmental awareness, and intrinsic motivation.
These workshops also give you a good impression of our way of working and whether this program is the right fit for you.
The first round
The day begins with a group session for all participants. Following this, you will attend three workshops in smaller groups: Solo and Artist Talk, Movement Lab, and Makers Lab.
Workshop: Solo and Artist Talk (90 minutes)
This workshop evaluates your artistic and connecting abilities. You will present a solo and engage in a discussion on topics such as your creative process and sources of inspiration.
Solo Criteria (prepare this in advance):
Minimum duration: 1 minute; maximum duration: 2.5 minutes.
Choose your own dance style and source of inspiration or concept (a core idea or story behind your dance).
Perform your solo without music.
Workshop: Movement Lab (90 minutes)
In the Movement Lab, we evaluate your artistic and exploratory abilities. This workshop emphasizes the unique way you move and express yourself through dance. You will develop your own movement language in various ways, with creativity and individual expression at the center.
Workshop: Makers Lab (90 minutes)
In the Makers Lab, we focus on your connecting and exploratory abilities. You will work on dance-making, drawing from various sources of inspiration. We challenge you to connect with others, show courage, and take initiative.
The second round
The second round lasts two days. The first day begins with a group session, followed by two workshops and a motivation interview.
Workshop: Dance (90 minutes)
At the start of the first day, all participants take part in a Dance Workshop, where we assess your physical learning ability. You can choose the style in which you want to participate.
Workshop: Issue-Based (2 sessions)
This workshop takes place over two sessions: one in the afternoon and one the following morning. It evaluates your artistic, exploratory, and connecting abilities, as well as your environmental awareness. After an introduction to the concept of Issue-Based, you will work in groups of five to seven participants on a small project centered around a topic or theme.
Motivation Interview (approx. 10 minutes)
During one of the two days, you will have a short interview to discuss your motivation and expectations for the program.
Medical and physical examination
The Artisteducator in Dance course is a versatile course offering opportunities in a wide range of career fields. The physical demands of the program are high, and it is essential that you understand your body well. Therefore, after successfully passing the audition, you will need to undergo a Dance Medical Examination (DMO) to determine if you can physically meet the program's demands.
The DMO is conducted at the Sport Medical Center Papendal and consists of two parts:
- A medical screening by a sports physician.
An orthopedic screening by a physiotherapist.
After a positive result in the auditions, you can register for the DMO, choosing from several available dates.
Result and validity
After the auditions and the medical and dance physical examination, you will be notified within two weeks whether you qualify for admission. The result only applies to the ArtEZ Bachelor of Dance in Education course in Arnhem for the academic year immediately following the audition. If more people qualify for admission than the course can accommodate, a number of them will be put on a waiting list.
