Admission

Admission

For the Pre-Master's in Music Therapy, ArtEZ is looking for graduated music teachers and musicians who want to develop their musical-artistic, music therapy, leadership and research skills in a stimulating and innovative environment.

Admission criteria for the Pre-Master's in Music Therapy

  • Completed Bachelor's or Master's in Music or
  • a completed Bachelor's in Music in Education
  • Language requirements apply to this English course.
  • Motivation form
  • Positive result from the entrance exam. During the exam, we look into your development potential and the chances of passing the course.

Motivation form

After studying the English manual, you can begin writing your personal motivation. Use the motivation form for this. Explain why you would like to study music therapy and state which skills you possess that you think could be of use. You can upload your motivation form to you registration in ArtEZ Osiris. If you have any questions regarding the programme and the registration, please send an email to conservatorium.enschede@artez.nl.

We also ask you to send us a short video (maximum 5 minutes) of yourself in which you present yourself musically. Let us hear you play on your main instrument, but also on an (other) harmony instrument like piano or guitar (if this is not your main instrument). On this instrument you accompany yourself while singing a song of your choice.

Entrance exam

The entrance exam comprises a motivation interview. For some students there is also an audition, depending on your preliminary training.

Motivation interview

Your submitted motivation form will form the basis of the motivation interview, which will last for approximately 30 minutes. During this interview you can explain why you would like to study music therapy and how this profession fits in with you. We will look if your motivation fits your ambitions, is realistic and feasible and if it is suitable for a future Master's level.

Audition

If your motivational interview has been found to be sufficient, the practical audition (30 minutes) can take place on a date to be determined. If you can prove that you fulfil the singing and piano final attainment levels of admission (you have followed at least four semesters of Singing and Piano at school of music level), and you have a Bachelor degree in Music, you do not have to do an audition. If you cannot prove this, the audition will comprise a singing and/or piano piece (see programme requirements).

Dates for the entrance exam

The musical auditions will take place on one of the following dates. Therefore, please make a note in your agenda if you plan to apply for admission to the pre-master's course Music Therapy:

  • March 30 2024
  • May 11, 2024
  • May 18, 2024

Results and validity

The committee will announce the Board of Examiners' advice immediately after the audition. This will ultimately decide if you will be placed. This will be provided to you in writing.

You will receive the results of the entrance exam within three working weeks. A positive result of admission is only valid for the programme you registered for. Any offer of admission will only be valid for the academic year immediately subsequent to the entrance exam.

If you do not agree with the negative results because of the procedure followed, you can lodge a complaint as a candidate with the Board of Examiners.
