Preparatory programme Theatre & Media concludes with final presentation

After eight weeks of playing, developing and exploring, participants in the Artisteducator in Theatre & Media preparatory programme presented their own performance at De Kubus in Lelystad.

Broad introduction to arts education

The final presentation brought together the work created over the past weeks. During the programme, students worked with theatre, film, writing and presenting.

The preparatory programme offered secondary school and vocational (MBO) students the opportunity to become familiar with higher professional arts education close to home.

Under the guidance of theatre teachers from ArtEZ and De Kubus, participants explored what it means to be a theatre maker or arts educator. The programme focused on experimentation, collaboration and the development of their own stories.

Exploring the possibilities of theatre

During the programme, the students discovered different aspects of the theatre field. In addition to acting, they worked on writing, directing, filming and presenting.

This helped them develop a broad understanding of what a degree programme in Theatre & Media can involve.

The preparatory programme started in January and aimed to give young people from Flevoland insight into what studying at a university of the arts entails.

Certificates awarded to participants

At the closing event, Alderman for Culture Sjaak Kruis presented certificates to the participants.

According to Kruis, the initiative shows how art and culture can be brought closer to young people. He described the programme as a valuable opportunity for students to discover whether becoming a theatre maker or arts educator could be a path for them.

Collaboration with De Kubus

The preparatory programme is a collaboration between ArtEZ University of the Arts Zwolle, De Kubus in Lelystad and Campus Porteum. The programme was made possible through a one-off grant from the municipality of Lelystad.

According to Alex van Zijl, director of De Kubus, the project was set up to introduce young people from the region to arts education. Flevoland does not have its own art academy, which means that pursuing an arts degree can be a significant step for many young people. With this preparatory programme, arts education has come a step closer.
