The jury expresses its appreciation for 'the dynamism and pictorial strength in Gideon van Gameren’s paintings.' They also praise his energetic, colourful compositions, in which he depicts scenes close to home that are carefully and thoughtfully constructed.
In his work, Gideon combines personal observations with a powerful painterly approach. Everyday situations form the starting point for layered compositions full of movement and colour.

Each year, the Royal Award for Modern Painting honours young, promising artists. The award is regarded as an important form of recognition within the Dutch visual arts. In 2025, AKI alumnus Lieve Hakkers won the award.
After the announcement of the three winners, the King opened the exhibition, where works by both the winners and the nominated artists can be seen until 29 March.
