Focus on mastery
You already know a thing or two about composition. Perhaps you taught yourself, or perhaps you followed a preparatory course. You think and work with music in mind, you like experimenting and you enjoy stretching the limits of music and of your own abilities. Does this sound familiar? Then this course has a lot to offer you! Because what you want to create is up to you. How you do it, you will learn during this course. The course’s programme focuses on being a maker; we teach you the skills you need to become a really good composer in whatever genre you choose.
Broaden your horizons; find your sound
The Composition for Film and Theatre course is a hybrid course, and it is in English. This automatically makes it very internationally oriented. It means that not only students, but also teachers from all over the world take part in the course. Also unique to this course are the many (online) collaborations with students from other disciplines such as dance, visual art and theatre. This way, there are no limits to the ways we can inspire each other. Once you graduate from Composition for Film and Theatre, you will be a composer at the centre of the artistic world, with a strong vision and a broad outlook on the musical and creative playing field. Not only will you feel comfortable in your composition skills, but you will also have an awareness of where your future opportunities may be!
On campus or online?
If you choose to take this course online, you will have lessons at the same time as your fellow students who are taking the course in-person in Dutch time, CET. At the ArtEZ Academy of Music, we use the latest real-time techniques so that you can compose, perform and record together accurately, even at a distance. You can take the course on campus in Arnhem or online - and you can switch between the two each year! This way, you can adapt the course to suit your current life situation best.
Doing research outside of your regular class hours
When you study at ArtEZ, you also get acquainted with research. Think of theory classes, material research, and socially engaged research. Within your course, there is ample support and space to discover what kind of artistic researcher you are. But outside your regular class hours, there are also special initiatives, activities, and workshops where you can work on research. Especially for students who seek further depth. Curious? Then quickly read more about the (extracurricular) research activities.
