Creative Writing



For the Creative Writing course at the Academy of Art & Design in Arnhem, ArtEZ is looking for enterprising and talented writers with a strong power of imagination, an interest in literature and a sense of curiosity. In addition, you have to meet certain qualification and language requirements.

Creative Writing admission criteria

    • Applicants must have completed VWO, HAVO, MBO (level 4) or the equivalent.
    • International students must meet certain language requirements.
    • Applicants must have successfully completed the entrance examination. During the entrance examination, we assess your chances of completing the course successfully.

Language requirements

All our courses have language requirements. You will need to prove your language proficiency by handing in a certificate stating your level. The level for Creative Writing is:

      • B2, before 1 September

Selection dates: you can no longer apply for the selection procedure 2018-2019.

Admission days

The selection consists in principle of two days. We assess during both days your artistic ability to follow the study. During the first day you will take three workshops. On the basis of the scores and observations of the teachers, you will be invited or not invited for the second admission day.

On the second day you will also take two workshops. On Friday or Saturday you will have a personal, 20-minute interview with two lecturers a Creative Writing student and yourself. The questionnaire, writing assignments and your motivation for taking this programme will serve as the basis for this interview.

Result and validity

You will be notified of whether you have been admitted, rejected or placed on the waiting list within two working weeks. The admission is only valid for the programme and academic year for which you have enrolled.


Enrolment for the Bachelor of Design – Creative Writing is part of this Bachelor’s – is done through Studielink. You will then receive your homework writing assignments by email, which you must complete and return to us by email no later than two weeks prior to the admission day.
