Corpo-real Discourse: Alex Pope / STRAAT Museum

13:30 tot 16:30
Bagijneweide 33, Zwolle

On Friday 30 October we welcome Alex Pope from STRAAT Museum. This Discourse meeting is one in a series of interaction with a wide range of researchers and artists, invited by Corpo-real students to explore the endlessly dynamic relationship between bodies and space, together as peers in the field.

Alex Pope graduated from the University of Amsterdam in 2011, with a thesis on the ‘artification’ of graffiti, documenting the transition from the public space to the museums of the world. The academic theory for this research was rooted in the symbolic production of art and the so-called gatekeepers in the cultural field. Through a variety of street art-focused detours, which includes publications on Brooklyn Street Art and presentations on graffiti at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Alex joined the STRAAT Museum crew in 2020, where he currently still works as Educator.

STRAAT is the museum for street art and graffiti. The museum aims to share its passion for this radical art movement with the public, showcasing some of the biggest names and upcoming talent from all over the world. STRAAT is a street art and graffiti museum for everyone, made possible by a dedicated team of enthusiasts.

STRAAT's current exhibition displays more than 180 artworks by 170+ artists. The artworks were created on-site and most of these mind blowing visual experiences are as big as outdoor walls. As a museum, STRAAT provides the added value of context and information, sharing the stories that remain untold in the streets.

STRAAT resides in an 8000 m2 former warehouse on the NDSM wharf, both a national monument and the biggest outdoor playground for street art and graffiti in Amsterdam. STRAAT offers a total museal experience, as well as educational opportunities and guided tours to answer all kinds of street art questions. Visiting this museum is guaranteed to make you look at your surroundings with a refreshed pair of eyes.

Admission is free and registration is not required.
