During Dutch Design Week (DDW), ArtEZ University of the Arts is involved in several programmes and activities exploring the future of the fashion and textile sector. Through NewTexEco, the research community led by ArtEZ, we are involved in two CLICKNL programmes: Design Innovation Sessions - Thriving Planet in the morning and Ontwerpkracht & Transities in the afternoon. Care & Repair, a research project of the ArtEZ Professorship in Fashion and part of NewTexEco, is organising a workshop in the afternoon.
In addition, research results from NewTexEco will be presented at Fashion Tech Farm (FTF) from 17 to 25 October. De Klerenpartij, which involves ArtEZ alumni, is also organising a special event at Eindhoven City Hall during DDW.
Morning: Design Innovation Sessions – Thriving Planet

The Design Innovation Sessions 2026: Thriving Planet explore how design, digitalisation and innovation can contribute to societal change.
The NewTexEco project DPP4Circular Denim is part of the session The smart weaving mill. Jirka Rajme-Mendez and Borre Akkersdijk will share their perspectives on developing a more circular textile sector. Jirka is connected to the NewTexEco research group; Borre Akkersdijk is the founder of BYBORRE, a partner in the project.
DPP4Circular Denim explores how digital product information and Digital Product Passports can contribute to greater transparency and more circular value chains.
Afternoon: Ontwerpkracht & Transities

In the afternoon, Care & Repair is part of the first public event of Ontwerpkracht & Transities, a CLICKNL programme in which five research projects explore how design can contribute to societal transitions.
Care & Repair is a research project of the ArtEZ Professorship in Fashion and part of the NewTexEco research community. The project uses a design-led approach to explore how the lifespan of clothing can be extended. This requires not only solutions for maintenance and repair, but also collaboration between different actors across the textile value chain.
As part of the programme, Care & Repair is organising the workshop Orchestrating transitions as a designer. Different orchestrators will share their perspectives and discuss the role, tensions and value of orchestration as a design competency with participants.
The programme also includes a keynote by David Abbink and a project market presenting the five research projects within Ontwerpkracht & Transities. The event has capacity for 120 participants; registration is recommended.
De Klerenpartij: putting fashion on the political agenda

De Klerenpartij is also active during Dutch Design Week. ArtEZ alumni are involved in De Klerenpartij. On Friday 23 October, De Klerenpartij will take over the council chamber at Eindhoven City Hall for a special council meeting on the future of the fashion system.
Designers, students, entrepreneurs, residents and policymakers will discuss how the fashion and textile sector can become fairer and more sustainable. The discussion will be based on concrete motions developed by De Klerenpartij together with representatives from the fashion and textile sector in and around Eindhoven. Through contributions from speakers, debate and a vote, the future of the fashion system is brought onto the political agenda.
Networking drinks
After the council meeting, NewTexEco will host networking drinks from 16:00 to 17:00. An opportunity to continue the conversation about developments in the fashion and textile sector and meet others during Dutch Design Week.
Research results at Fashion Tech Farm

ArtEZ will also be represented at DDW outside the CLICKNL programme. From 17 to 25 October, research results from NewTexEco will be presented at Fashion Tech Farm (FTF). Several projects demonstrate how practice-based research and design can contribute to new perspectives on the textile sector.
