Inside Outside - the unexpected effects of lightness

As designers of the architectural realm, we are fascinated by lightness and light itself, by breathing textiles, ballooning curtains, dancing grasses, static images that seem to move and the dynamism of it all.

Lightness is a way of thinking; a philosophy of the minimal, of the atmosphere, of the tangible and intangible and of the sustainable flexibility.  Our textile work connects to this and is founded on intuitive associations and experimentation rather than on technical systems only.

We tease the spectator with etherealness; with a tromp l’oeil effect or a mirage illusion. Is it there or is it not? Does it seem bigger or smaller? But is it floating?  What you see from far away attracts you to get closer, and once in proximity, new images and realities appear.

The subject of lightness is subconsciously connected to the notion of letting go and await for the unexpected to happen; which might seem contradicting with the way designers are often expected to reveal the end result of their designs.

With this topic, enriched by illustrations of Inside Outside’s projects, Aura Luz Melis would like to add to our mutual understanding of textiles.
