Artisteducator in Theater X Speelscollectief - BODYMIND
How do we see each other? What if the way you see yourself differs from the way the outside world sees you? BODYMIND explores the gap between these two worlds. It is a theatrical plea to stop letting the outside gaze define your self-image.

BODYMIND – A Theatrical Exploration of a New Perspective on Disability
No longer seen solely as medical, broken or frightening.
No longer seen solely as dependent, transient or vulnerable.
Not something to be ashamed of or hidden away.
But fluid, unpredictable and constantly in motion.
With soft edges and hands ready to fight.
Poetic legs and sheltering heads resting on strong shoulders.
Where continuously searching together and discovering anew becomes an act of resistance.
BODYMIND is an ode to human dignity and the right to exist, beyond functionality and productivity. An attempt to break free together from systems that reduce us to simplistic categories, labels and diagnoses.
Collaboration with Year 2 of the Artisteducator in Theater Programme
The Artisteducator in Theater programme trains students to become artists who make a difference, think critically and share stories that matter. This performance is part of the Contemporary Aesthetics module, in which second-year students immerse themselves in a new context and engage in artistic research.
Bodymind is a term coined by disability studies scholar Margaret Price. It combines the English words “body” and “mind” and challenges the idea that the two are separate. Mental processes often have a physical impact, just as physical processes influence how we think, feel and experience the world. This is an experience we all share: the bodymind as a continuously transforming human being.
