On Thursday 2 April 2026, Textile Wearable Labs, together with NewTexEco, is organising the symposium De Nieuwe Draad in Hengelo. The day will focus on the innovative power of textiles in the eastern Netherlands, with inspiring speakers, interactive sessions and plenty of opportunity to experience prototypes and new materials.
Upon presenting your ArtEZ student card, you pay only €25 for entry, a drink, and lunch!

During the symposium, you’ll discover how designers, researchers, and companies are working towards a circular and regenerative textile chain. The program features a mix of lectures, panel discussions, and an interactive exhibition.
Innovation in textiles: sustainable and circular solutions
The program showcases inspiring examples of how textiles can contribute to a sustainable future. Think of hospital mattresses by Remat, Riverfashion (fashion made from plastic recovered from the IJssel), and the use of unexpected fibers such as pineapple and ginger. Companies like Spinning Jenny and Enschede Textielstad also share their knowledge and vision.
