This year, students and alumni from the ArtEZ Academy of Music will have a record number of acts at Eurosonic Noorderslag (and the surrounding program) in Groningen. Representing the strength of ArtEZ's music programs, there are a remarkable 23 live acts from the Jazz & Pop, Media Music, and Pop Academy courses. For students and alumni, this annual event is the moment to showcase their talent to bookers, record labels, and other professionals in the music industry.
ESNS has been the leading conference for the Dutch music scene since 1986. Over four days (January 17 to 20, 2024), bookers, labels, musicians, and other professionals or music enthusiasts come together to discuss the future of the industry and discover the latest and most influential trends in pop music.
Acts from the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede
The ArtEZ Academy of Music in Enschede is characterized by the innovative nature of its programs. Within the walls of this academy, students collaborate to achieve the best in technology, music, music education, and music therapy. Acts from the Academy of Music in Zwolle
The ArtEZ Academy of Music in Zwolle is where musical traditions are broken and renewed. The programs in Classical Music, Music Education, and Jazz & Pop at this academy focus on the development of individual talent, personality, and craftsmanship. Panel 'Activism Can Be Learned' with alumnus Babs Schutte
In addition to live acts, visitors can be inspired and informed during various panel talks in the upper room of Oosterpoort. One of these panel talks is 'Activism Can Be Learned' with ArtEZ Media Music alumnus Babs Schutte. The panel discusses the sound, or the absence thereof, from pop music as a counter-movement against urgent societal issues such as wars, crises, racism, gender, environment/planet, and election results/power changes. Spotlights
Spread over four days, approximately 40,000 visitors come to Groningen to experience ESNS together. About 4,000 of them work in the programming of major festivals and clubs in Europe. For the participating acts and ArtEZ students, this means a slightly different show than they are used to. This is the moment when they catch the attention of bookers and record labels. A performance at Eurosonic Noorderslag can lead to a spot on one of the major stages or a record deal. They will go all out to make their showcase remarkable and unique. A visit to ESNS is therefore more than worthwhile.
