Finals stories, hot off the press

If you don't have time to attend final presentations, don't worry! There's a lot of new and interesting reading material available this week. Perfect for busy bees who are too occupied to attend the finals presentations or for true finals fans who don't want to miss anything, not even a syllable!

The magic realism of Marc Mens

Marc Mens' graduation project is so conventional that it almost feels, well, unconventional. While many students of the Creative Writing bachelor's course in Arnhem opt for multidisciplinary approaches, Marc writes a novel. His novel is about a young, Indo-Dutch woman who returns to the island of her ancestors in the early 1960s. As her mind begins to unravel, so does the island.

Irem Biter designed a spatial reflection of "almost but not quite belonging"

Irem Biter, a master's student in Interior Architecture, feels like she exists "in-between": between her birth country, Turkey, and the Netherlands, between the traditional and the experimental. In her final research, Irem explores liminal spaces. "Both the Dutch and Turkish communities sometimes make me feel like I don't belong. I am an in-between person. That's why I'm looking for a spatial reflection of this specific feeling: the in-between space."
