The ArtEZ Academy of Theatre & Dance is inviting Performance Technology Lab as a guest from 7th until 10th September. The academy organizes five different workshops for students of the bachelor Dance Artist, Dance in Education and Theatre in Education, each with a different technology and approach as a starting point.

Performance Technology Lab

The Performance Technology Lab is a nomadic studio and hosts on-site workshops where performing artists can experiment with new and old technology.

More and more theatre makers are playing on stage with the visual and technological culture of today, using new (and old) technology. This technology can only become meaningful on stage if it is involved in the development from the concept phase. The Performance Technology Lab gives creators that space.

Theatre makers, designers and technical experts play together in their lab, exploring the possibilities of technology and making sketches for new concepts. Theatre in Education students from ArtEZ will participate as part of one of their modules, utilizing the skills they have learned in the week, as part of their cross-over collective module fourth year. Dance and Dance in Education students will use the modules for their individual artistic trajectories.

Performance Technology Lab

This week is not only important for students to discover what technologies are currently being used in the sector, but also to inspire possible future scenarios: what role could technology play (even more) in telling contemporary stories, what artistic explorations are conceivable? And in what way can the academy invest in available resources for artistic-digital developments?

Together with Rozet and De Vloer, ArtEZ has also applied for a municipal subsidy to introduce creators in Arnhem to this innovative way of working.

An extra day is organized on the 11th September with a presentation of the various technologies and local makers can work with the Performance Technology Lab together with students.
