Growing (my) luck grows a path of clovers through the exhibition

For three months, work by Amalie Sveske Ourø will be on view in the group exhibition A. Beginning at Beautiful Distress in Amsterdam. Amalie is a student of the master's programme DAI Art Praxis at ArtEZ. With her installation Growing (my) luck, she allows a living artwork to slowly grow through the exhibition space.

A path of clovers through the space

For Growing (my) luck, Amalie sows clover seeds along a line running through the exhibition. Over the following months, this line gradually develops into a green path that guides visitors past the different artworks. At the same time, the path itself becomes an installation.

The clovers symbolise movement, adaptation and survival. As the plants grow and respond to their surroundings, they draw parallels with human migration and the search for a new existence. The four-leaf clover refers not only to luck, but also to the right to take root and grow despite difficult circumstances.

'I have never found a four-leaf clover, but I keep searching,' Amalie writes about the work. 'With this work, I invite visitors to search alongside me.'

Performance and workshop

During the opening on Thursday 28 May, Amalie will activate the installation with a sowing ritual. Later this summer, a workshop will follow in collaboration with Road of Hope. This Amsterdam-based organisation supports refugees during their integration process.

On Saturday 29 August, she will present her performance Counting my luck. The exhibition will close festively on 30 August in collaboration with artist Kalliopi Ioumpa.

About A. Beginning

The group exhibition A. Beginning brings together seven artists who each reflect, in their own way, on the idea of starting over. Some participants recently graduated, while others returned to their practice after illness or personal crises.

The exhibition explores how vulnerability and resilience coexist during periods of change. At the same time, A. Beginning raises questions about inequality, war, migration and the possibility of beginning again.

The exhibition can be visited from 28 May until 30 August 2026 at Beautiful Distress in Amsterdam.
