ArtEZ is committed to securing the future of AKI ArtEZ in Enschede

The Executive Board of ArtEZ is committed to ensuring that AKI ArtEZ remains in Enschede. This position is based on discussions with stakeholders both within and outside the organisation, an analysis of the available reports, the many expressions of support received, and the recommendations set out in the Van den Doel Committee report (December 2025).

The Executive Board believes there is a strong foundation on which to build this future. The positive outcome of the recent review of ArtEZ's Art & Design programmes further confirms the high quality of the education provided. The Board greatly appreciates the commitment shown by both staff and students over the past period in working towards the recovery, preservation and further development of the academy.

To ensure AKI ArtEZ remains sustainable in the long term, student numbers will need to grow to at least 375 by 2030. Achieving this will require close collaboration with regional, national and international partners, as well as with the other Art & Design programmes at ArtEZ in Zwolle and Arnhem. Discussions on these partnerships are currently underway.

With this direction, ArtEZ aims to provide clarity for students, staff and partners while continuing to build a future-proof academy of art in Enschede. High-quality arts education in fine art, design, dance, theatre, music and arts education is, and will continue to be, of great importance to the eastern Netherlands. ArtEZ is committed to ensuring that the region continues to benefit from a broad and high-quality educational offering in the years ahead.
