Application and admissionArtEZ is looking for art and design graduates of a university of the arts who would like to teach, and fine art teachers who wish to obtain a broad qualification. A number of diploma and language requirements apply.
Tailor-Made BA Fine Art and Design in Education admission requirements
To be eligible to study the Tailor-Made bachelor's course Fine Art and Design in Education, you must meet certain diploma and language requirements. Please keep the following conditions in mind:
- A Dutch VWO, HAVO, MBO (level 4) diploma, or an equivalent foreign diploma. While the Culture and Society profile in HAVO or VWO is not required, it can be beneficial. The same applies to a creative course at the MBO level; it is not a requirement but can be useful and valuable.

Completed university of the arts course or second-level teaching qualification like Fine Art, Graphic Design or Fashion Design.

This course is taught in Dutch and is subject to language requirements.

You must complete an entrance exam and receive a positive evaluation.
Application
To apply for the entrance exam, go to Studielink and create an account. After you’ve registered via Studielink, you’ll receive an email from ArtEZ’s Student Affairs department. Once you've submitted the questionnaire, you’ll be entered into the ArtEZ system, and the course you've applied for can reach out to you.
When you’re in the system, you’ll receive an email from the course. This email will include information about the date you’re expected at the academy and details about the admissions process. It will also contain a link to the home assignments. Download, complete these assignments, and bring them with you to the entrance exam.
Entrance examination
During the entrance exam, we aim to assess your motivation for the course, as well as your visual, artistic, and communication talents. This helps us evaluate your potential for success in the course.
We assess:
- Your communication skills: How well can you express yourself? To what extent can you share and discuss your fascinations and inspirations? How critically do you view and analyze your own activities?
The first entrance exams are held on a Saturday, and the last on a Tuesday, at the academy building in Arnhem.
Portfolio
To get an impression of your visual practices, you may bring a selection from your portfolio. We can then discuss this during the admission interview.
Entrance examination dates
Once you have received the home assignment, we expect you to use the next available admission date:
- 25 January
- 8 March
- 12 April
- 1 July
Result and validity
The results of the entrance exam are determined based on established criteria and are evaluated based on the home assignments and the conversation during the admission day at the academy. After the admission process, the admissions committee advises the Examination Committee on whether you will be accepted or not.
You will be informed on the same day as the entrance exam whether you have been admitted to our program. In the case of a rejection, we will try to provide you with insight into the reasons for this decision.
The bachelor's course Tailor-Made Fine Art and Design in Education can be studied at ArtEZ in two locations: Arnhem and Zwolle. You may only take the entrance exam at one of these locations. If you are accepted, you can switch later, as your admission is valid for both Tailor-Made Fine Art and Design in Education in Zwolle and Tailor-Made Fine Art and Design in Education in Arnhem. If you wish to apply for the admission process of another course or specialization, you must register separately for that. Admission is only valid for the academic year directly following the entrance exam.
