Admission audition for bachelor programme

Time and location
The admission audition for the bachelor course in Music Theatre consists of three workshops spread over several days. Separate audition periods are scheduled for March and June. The auditions take place in Arnhem and are held in groups.

Assessment
The audition committee consists of a chair and experts from the various disciplines. In the assessment, the committee will be looking at your creativity, originality, scope for development and technical skills.

First round: vocal/instrumental

In the first round we test your basic musical skills, vocal and/or instrumental. This takes place in a group of between 3 and 5 candidates and lasts approximately an hour. Immediately afterwards, you will be told whether you can go on to the second round.

For the first round, you need to prepare 2 pieces of music. Deliver a calling card for yourself, appropriate to the course you are auditioning for. Aim for diversity in style and tempo. It could be existing music, improvised, self-composed, accompanied or a capella.

You will also be sent a music sample to study.

Second round: acting - movement

In the second round, we will test your skills in acting, movement and achieving a performance. You will be working in a larger group led by acting and movement teachers. We will be looking for workability, reproducibility and opportunities for combining the disciplines. This will last about 2 hours.

Afterwards you will be told whether you can go on to the third round. If you make it through to the third round, you will be given an assignment to complete at home.

Third round: music & theatre

In the third round we will test the individual skills described previously in combination, and we will test your authorship. The skills also include the (application of) the music theory knowledge set out in the admission requirements. This round will last two days. As part of it, we will be working on a performance you will have prepared in the time between the second and the third rounds. At the end you will be told whether you have passed the audition.

If you are accepted, you will then receive an instruction lesson with assignments for the opening project immediately after the summer holiday.

This also applies to students who have been admitted on an instrumental major. We have a partnership with a specialist collective for ear, nose and throat treatment at Rijnstate hospitaland the practice for voice therapy Grooten en Selten. Together they will perform a joint examination and submit a report with possible recommendations. This examination will be performed at Rijnstate hospital in Arnhem shortly after the fourth round of auditions.

Admission is only valid for the course for which you have enrolled. If you wish to apply for admission to a course or specialisation at another location you must register for this separately. The admission is only valid for the academic year directly following the entrance examination.
