Art as education, education as art

As ArtEZ, we are proud to be home to two education in arts master's courses. In both master's courses, being an artisteducator is central: art as education, and education as art. So both master's courses train you to teach through art, rather than about art. Both master's programmes have their own and unique way of training students to become artist educators. The International Master Artist Educator (iMAE) is about 'working with'; whether with your own community or with various groups and individuals. As a student, you will learn to work professionally and proactively with anyone who needs your presence, whether in the public or private sector.

The master's course Education in Arts is aimed at arts teachers, or professionals who want to deepen their artistic practice. This master's course offers support in founding your vision and boosting your artistic-educational working practice. Students are introduced to arts-based research, learn to reflect thoroughly and ask critical questions - also to themselves. As a student, you will conduct research on social issues in the context of recent and inspiring developments in arts-based pedagogy.

Feel free to browse the websites of both courses, where you will find information about the study programme, stories and experiences of students and alumni.

About the Keuzegids masters 2023

The new Keuzegids Masters 2023 contains an updated overview of master's courses  in the Netherlands with a focus on the specific differences between courses. The Keuzegids contains study descriptions, admission requirements, quality assessments by students, information on job opportunities and starting salaries per discipline. The information from the Keuzegids Masters helps future students make a well-considered choice for their master's course.

The Keuzegids Masters is compiled annually by the Centre for Higher Education Information and compares all accredited master's courses at Dutch colleges and universities. The assessments in the guide are compiled partly on the basis of student ratings from the National Student Survey (NSE) and accreditation data. If the number of students who participated in the NSE is too low, no student assessments are included in the Keuzegids. Figures on study success are not available for master's programmes.
