SPOTTED: Campaign Catch of the Day 2050 where students Illustration Design worked on wins two Dutch Creativity Awards

  • Design

The Catch of the Day 2050 campaign, on which Illustration Design students worked, has won two Dutch Creativity Awards. The campaign was created by non-profit organisation Sea Shepherd in collaboration with Ogilvy Social.Lab Amsterdam. The now second-year Illustration Design students worked on it last year under the supervision of lecturer TRIK together with students from the Design Academy Eindhoven. They recreated fish and shellfish using found fishing nets from the North Sea as materials.

The campaign received a gold award in the category Society and a bronze award in the category Art Direction. The fish created by the students under the guidance of teacher TRIK had a prominent role in the campaign video.

As the name Catch of the Day 2050 suggests, the campaign is about what will swim in the ocean in 2050. Will there still be fish and shellfish then, or will the animals be replaced by marine waste? If nothing changes, the amount of fish we know now will disappear. Non-profit organisation Sea Sherpherd has been drawing attention to this problem for years. For the April campaign, the NGO enlisted the agency Ogilvy Social.Lab Amsterdam together with students from Illustration Design and the Design Academy Eindhoven.

The jury of the Dutch Creativity Awards said the following about the Catch of the Day 2050 campaign:

‘Catch of the Day 2050' addresses a VERY relevant issue; hitting the right spot with its execution, craft and how uncomfortable it makes you feel. It is a moving piece that inevitably draws a crowd by tapping into Dutch culture. Worthy of a being in art exhibitions to share amongst future generations.
