Specific admission criteria for Bass trombone

In addition to the general admission criteria, there are also specific instrumental requirements. During the audition, you will perform at least one étude and a recital piece, unless indicated otherwise. The pieces mentioned are merely examples. You can also opt for other works of a similar level.

Your performing skills will be tested on the basis of

  • Technique: All the major and minor scales, the accompanying triads and natural tones (lip flexibilities);
  • Several études of different characters such as Grigoriev’s 24 Studies, Stephanovsky’s 20 Studies or études of a similar level of difficulty by, for instance, Ostrander, Raph or Pederson;
  • A solo work to be chosen yourself and of the same level as Sachse’s Concertino or Lebedev’s Concerto no. 1.
