Application and admission

Application and admission

Do you want to use your artistic and creative skills for yourself and others in order to make a difference to society? Are you curious and open-minded and do you have the guts to experiment? Then apply for the entrance examination for Fine Art and Design in Education part-time in Arnhem.

Admission requirements

In order to be eligible for the part-time Fine Art and Design in Education course at ArtEZ in Arnhem, you must meet a number of diploma and language requirements. You must meet the following conditions:

  • Pre-university education (VWO), upper general secondary education (HAVO), secondary vocational education (MBO: level 4) or foreign equivalent level of education. Having chosen the culture and society profile at HAVO or VWO level is not a requirement, but may be an advantage. The same goes for a creative course at MBO level: it is not a condition, but it is useful and valuable;
  • This course is taught in Dutch and is subject to language requirements
  • You must pass an entrance examination.

Admission requirements for full-time programme and tailor-made programme

A full-time version of this course is also available. The full-time course is subject to the same admission requirements as the part-time bachelor.

For graduates of a higher professional Fine Art or Design course (Kuo) and for graduates of a second-level teacher training course in Drawing, Crafts or Textile Arts, there is the Tailor-Made BA Fine Art and Design in Education . They qualify for an exemption from the entrance examination and only have to complete an intake procedure.

Entrance exam

In the entrance exam, we want to get an idea of your motivation for the course and your visual, artistic and communication talents. This will enable us to assess your chances of succeeding on the course.

We will test:

  • Your creative ability: your ability to express yourself visually, to work based on observation and concept. We will also be looking for things like understanding of and feel for colour, form and material and the individuality expressed by your work.
  • Your ability to communicate. How strong are your communication skills, to what extent are you able to share and discuss your fascination and inspiration? How do you critically view your own activities and how do you analyse them?
  • Your ability to reflect critically on images. Here we will be looking for an inquiring and experimental attitude, interest in art and culture and a focused interest in the discipline.

The entrance exam takes place on a Saturday, at the academy in Arnhem. If this is not possible due to the situation surrounding COVID-19, the entrance exam will be held digitally.

After the admission procedure, the admissions committee will advise the Board of Examiners whether or not you should be admitted.

You will be notified of the result within three weeks of the entrance examination. If you are rejected, we will try to explain the reasons why.

You can study Fine Art and Design in Education at ArtEZ at two locations: in Arnhem and in Zwolle. You are only allowed to take the entrance examination at one of the two locations. If you are accepted, you can still switch, because your admission is valid for Fine Art and Design in Education part-time in both Zwolle and Arnhem.
