Cinema of Sound is the graduation project of drummer and composer Joshua Stakenburg. During his graduation, Joshua revisits the core of his musical identity while simultaneously stretching the boundaries of his musical setting.
The first half of the performance features a set by the Modern Desert Trio, a fusion band consisting of drums, bass and baglama that takes the musical tradition of the Middle East and blends it with influences from jazz and funk. Over the past few years of his studies, Joshua has immersed himself in composing, and he presents this through his own work in the second half of the performance with a 9-piece prog-pop band with vocal choir. This music takes clichés and compositional techniques from film music and works them into powerful, narrative compositions.
With this performance, Joshua aims to take the listener on a journey through authentic and new musical sounds, a look at what his musical future may hold. The performance will take place in the Schouwburg Odeon in Zwolle. For €7.50 you can experience this special and varied evening!
