Public lecture Sharon Sportel: You're (not) (a) Strange(r)
This lecture kicks off the annual VOID project for the Associate degree in Interior Design and the Bachelor of Interior Architecture.
Therefore, if places bear witness to a vision that matches and justifies ours, we grant them the honorary title of ‘home’. - Alain de Botton
If we touch on the concept of ‘home’ in its broadest sense, it is about more than feeling somewhere in a place. It is not just about being familiar, but also about being selective and standing in authority of in your surroundings. One person's home is another's alienation. Making space means giving frameworks, excluding and prioritising. Through projects and examples involving the interpretation of social connections and the response to the environment, we explore this theme within spatial planning and spatial design.
About the VOID project
VOID is when students work on the VOID project between the autumn and spring semesters. This year, students of the Associate degree Interior Designer and the Bachelor Interior Architecture explore the theme HOME in four workshops, led by alumni of the ArtEZ interior design courses. They delve into topics such as memory, temporary home, the essence of home and the role of sound in our experience of home.
