APRIA (ArtEZ Platform for Research Interventions of the Arts) has invited Marlies Visser, head of Illustration Design at ArtEZ, to make a selection from its archives.

APRIA curated by Marlies Visser

Visser has chosen articles which draw upon four topics that she believes are important in Illustration Design: embodied experience, the relationship between the artist and the subject, philosophical connection (substantiation) to art through the 'theme' of perception and lastly, the role of art and climate activism.

Visser explains: "Within Illustration Design, attention is paid to images that focus on both personal and social topics. A good illustration engages the audience on several levels by approaching the subject in a groundbreaking way, and by maintaining a balance between originality and recognisability in form and style. Images can comment or reflect and communicate responsibly."

Find the selection on the APRIA homepage, apria.artez.nl, or by clicking on the button below.
