SPOTTED: Zwolle Young Talent Class harpist wins competition in Vienna

16-year-old harpist Megan van Uffelen has won the prestigious music competition of the Vienna Classical Music Academy. The musician was admitted to the Young Talent Class of the Academy of Music in Zwolle in 2019.

Whereas the preliminary rounds had taken place on YouTube, the final was held physically in the Austrian capital. Megan came first in her category, leaving the international competition of eleven finalists’ from countries including Italy (2nd place) and Korea (3rd place) behind her. One of the main prizes is a solo performance at the finalists concert in Vienna.

Megan van Uffelen (2005) started playing the harp at the age of seven. After six years, she switched to the pedal harp. “I love chamber music and I also play in a youth orchestra. We perform several times a year and besides classical music we also play film scores.” Megan also likes giving house concerts, for example in care homes.
