ArtEZ takes part in ALL IN @ Het HEM, 31 March-3 April

Nine art academies, a hundred and seventy-five young artists, one exhibition. For the first time in history, recently graduated art academy students from all fine arts bachelor's programmes in the Netherlands are presenting their work together. ALL INN offers a suited answer to the fragmented graduation season due to COVID-19. The initiative, organised by a team of twenty-five recent graduates under the direction of curator Rieke Vos, will take shape in an extensive exhibition with a lively public programme. ALL INN will take place from four to seven March 2021 in the spacious factory hall of Het HEM in Zaandam.

Curator: Rieke Vos

Graduating in 2020

At the beginning of March, art academies and graduates were confronted with the trials and tribulations of online teaching, digital final exams and the bleak prospect of not being able to show their work to the world physically. To bridge this gap, the fine arts departments of AKI Enschede, AKV St Joost, ArtEZ, Gerrit Rietveld Academie, HKU, KABK, Maastricht Institute of Arts, Minerva and WdKA decided to join forces and unitedly developed an alternative. ALL INN meets the desire of young makers to show their work to the world, but the initiative reaches far beyond this.

Collaboration over competition

ALL INN is unique in the sense that no selection has been made among the graduated artists; the extensive exhibition offers space to everyone. ALL INN chooses collaboration over competition and collectivity over individualism. The initiative anticipates the uncertainty of an artistic career by offering young artists a broad introduction to the art world. This, on one hand, translates into a carefully constructed exhibition that highlights the dialogue between various works and current tendencies in the arts, and on the other hand, into an extensive public program curated by the young makers themselves.

Demystifying artistic practice

With the public programme the participants of ALL INN take the course of their artistic development into their own hands. During five days we will invite a variety of professionals for an open dialogue. Representatives from all facets of the art world will be questioned about the do's and don'ts, the highlights and disappointments of a life within the arts. Shared experiences about their work, underlying motives and objectives will contribute to a collective body of thought. The programme aims to demystify artistic practice, define unwritten rules and break the taboos, through an open discussion about the things we always wanted to know, but never dared to ask.

Organisation

ALL INN was initiated by nine Dutch bachelor's degree programmes in fine arts, in collaboration with curator Rieke Vos. Het HEM is the generous innkeeper that welcomes ALL INN and its visitors and embraces them with warmth and care. Located in the peripheral town of Zaandam, at a distance from the metropolitan art centres of the Netherlands, ALL INN is a benevolent refuge and destination for everyone.

The project has been made possible with the support of Mondriaan Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, NN Group and Stichting Stokroos.
