In 'the week of', students show you what a week of a Fine Art and Design in Education student can look like. How are the days filled? Which subjects do you follow? And what do you do? In this edition, first-year student Femke Hooijman takes you through her week. 'I just got out of secondary school and doubted for a long time about what I wanted to study. This ultimately turned out to be the right choice for me.'

Monday

On Monday, I began my week with a day of theory. 'In the morning, I first had an online field class where our clients provided more information about the project. The field subject is about learning about the extracurricular field, such as museums and art institutions. On Monday afternoon, I had online cultural history along with the students from dance in education and theatre in education. This was a long day sitting at the laptop. Luckily, I was able to go back to school on Tuesday afternoon!

Tuesday

On Tuesday, the day began with an online art theory class on "disruption of art". In the afternoon, I got to pull out my camera and had a moving image class. We analysed our home assignments and were given a tour of the AV workshop.

Wednesday

Wednesday morning I started the day with a product design class. We have been given the assignment of designing a stick and there seem to be endless possibilities in this. I am making small prototypes for my idea, making a new kind of stilts. Wednesday afternoon I was free... sort of. My afternoon consisted of driving lessons and doing homework.

Thursday

Thursday is my favourite day of the week; we get to indulge ourselves in painting. This week's programme included painting a portrait. In the afternoon I was free but if the classroom is empty, continuing to paint is just as much fun. I spent the evening at Lidl as a cashier.

Friday

The last day of the week is already over. I finished the week with the subject of product design. Indeed, the subject I also have on Wednesdays, but with a different teacher and a somewhat more technical assignment. This is outside my comfort zone, but gives me the opportunity to surprise myself. The assignment is to create an "interactive creature". Okay, I already love animals, now I just need to learn to love programming. Friday afternoon I worked with a classmate on a moving image assignment.
