Minor
Dutch • Zwolle
The Liberal Arts tradition dates back to classical antiquity and was already focused on educating the “free human being.” Liberal Arts is therefore deeply connected to thinking about viable forms of freedom, such as democracy and the mature relationship between the free human being and the world.
The current minor programme is rooted in this tradition, but at the same time situated in the context of the twenty-first century and, importantly, it takes place within an art academy. You are invited to approach questioning and research as an artist. What does it mean to be human in today’s world? And what does it mean for you personally? How can you find your place and contribute? The premise of this programme is that you become a more complete human being when you also learn to explore yourself, your own biography and the way you exist in -and relate to- the world.
After this minor, you will look differently at yourself, your work and the world, and you will carry that awareness into your further studies and artistic practice.
