The Liberal Arts minor is for students within and outside ArtEZ who want to explore who they are and how they relate to the world. You are looking for space to pause, to wonder and to discover new perspectives. You do not need any experience with making art or with philosophy, but you do need an open attitude and the motivation to critically question yourself and the world.
During this minor, you will create a substantial amount of artwork. You will explore personal and existential questions not only by reading and talking, but especially by creating. You will be inspired by philosophy, art and conversations with others. In this way, you discover how art can support thinking, feeling and imagining.
Please note: this minor is popular and there is room for a maximum of 30 students per semester.
In this minor, you learn to think and work like an artist. You use art as a source of inspiration to ask and explore personal and existential questions. How do I want to position myself in this world? What does freedom mean to me? What does the world ask of me, and what do I give in return?
You choose a theme that is important to you and explore it through philosophy, art and reflection. You learn how to connect intuition, emotion and perception with thinking and language. You do this not only in the studio, but also during philosophy classes, museum-based assignments and excursions.
