Guitar

“When two guitarists play in exactly the same way, at least one of them does it all wrong” – a statement by Pieter van der Staak, former teacher at the Academy of Music in Zwolle.

A great deal has changed in the course of time, but the focus on individuality and the individual development of the student and their specific qualities has remained the starting point of the classical guitar course. During the course you are stimulated to broaden your horizon as much as possible.

In addition to the classes with your own major-subject teacher, you can arrange one or more classes with another teacher. There are several masterclasses and guest teachers will visit, so that you are prepared as thoroughly as possible for the future you choose. This could be a future as a teacher, as a performing musician or organiser, for example, or a combination of different things.

Specific admission criteria for Guitar

In addition to the general admission criteria, there are also specific instrumental requirements. During the audition, you will perform at least one étude and a recital piece, unless indicated otherwise. The pieces mentioned are merely examples. You can also opt for other works of a similar level.

Your performing skills will be tested on the basis of:

  • Three études of different character, tempo and technique, such as Sor’s Études (Segovia Ed.), Carcassi’s Études, Opus 60 (Schott), Aguado’s 24 Études (Schott), Giuliani’s Études, Opus 48 (UE) or Brouwer’s Études simples (Eschig);
  • Three recital pieces from different stylistic periods, such as Dowland’s Solowerke 1 & 2 (UE), Giuliani’s Three Sonatinas, Opus 71, Ponce’s 12 Preludes (Schott) or Carlevaro’s Preludios Americanos Campo, Ronda (Barry).
