Wintertuinfestival celebrates outspoken stories in every form. From 24 to 29 November 2025, the city centre of Nijmegen will pulse with new energy for an entire week. Literature, performance, art, music and encounters fill the streets. Makers and audiences turn Nijmegen inside out together. This year, the festival also marks a special milestone: its 30th edition, themed Contemporaries. What does it mean to share this moment in history? The festival explores how stories connect us and give meaning to the times we live in.

During the main festival evening on Saturday, several alumni of the bachelor Creative Writing once again appear on stage. Koen Frijns, Wietse Leenders and Hanan Faour present new work and sharp words. ArtEZ makers are also strongly represented behind the scenes: the collectives ECOJAM and Knokploeg curate programmes in the LUX café and in LUX7. Master’s student Sahra Mohammed contributes her own work to the evening programme as well. Creative Writing is, once again, firmly at the heart of the festival.
Each year, Wintertuinfestival presents a mix of emerging and established makers from the Netherlands and abroad. Expect performances by authors, performers and artists, alongside interviews, readings and new forms of storytelling. From intimate performances to major festival evenings: everywhere, the power of language takes centre stage. This year’s programme delves into how we experience time together, under the same satellites, with the same news rolling by, yet from completely individual perspectives.
Wintertuin invites visitors to listen, look and move along with stories that capture the now. And sometimes break through it.
